Three powerful LEDs in the dial operate at two lighting output levels; a soft blue glow for reading of the time in low light, or in a high visibility, amber flashlight mode. And, the benefits of these features can be enjoyed as often as desired without battery concerns, thanks to Firefly's cutting edge REQ technology.
Rechargeable Electromagnetic Quartz technology allows you to renew the power cell in the watch at will, via electromagnetic induction that charges the storage cell right through the case back. Simply set the watch on the charging station overnight and your're good to go for 4 to 6 months of normal use. Plus, you have the added benefit of not having to break the manufacturer's 100 meter water resistant seal with bothersome battery changes!

REQ; Triad's Rechargeable Electromagnetic Quartz technology offers freedom from inconvenient battery changes.While frequent use of the illumination features will shorten the period between changes, there is little, if any, inconvenience factor to the recharging process. Simply parking the watch on its Fireplug charging bass overnight will renew the cell and power the watch for about 4 months of normal use. The advantage of this system is that the watch is being charged only when necessary, as compared to other renewable (solar and kinetic) power systems that are constantly put through charging cycles. A Firefly cannot be overcharged. Even under demanding conditions, you need not worry about charging it too often. The rechargeable Lithium batteries used in this system have been proven to accept over 2500 charging cycles, far more than would ever be incurred in a real world ownership experience. We expect that these economical cells offer a dependable service of about 12 years.
The low charge indicator will engage about two weeks before the Lithium cell is depleted, causing the second hand to advance at two second intervals. The illumination features will also become increasingly less efficient during this period and their continued use will shorten the 2 week period. Active lifestyle owners of a Firefly will probably renew the charge on their watch about 4 times a year.
On Demand Illumination: Press the light button once and the dial will emit a soft blue glow (stage one) for reading of the time in low light conditions. It will stay lit for about 4 seconds. Press the button again, while stage 1 lighting is in effect, and the high intensity amber flashlight will be engaged. This stage 2 amber flashlight mode will stay lit for about 25 seconds, allowing hands free use.
